Volunteer Work

If you have any volunteer work that relates in any way to the position you are seeking, you should mention this on your résumé.  Being active in volunteer work shows that you are socially responsible, and it also shows that you don’t spend your time off being lazy and partying like a rock star.

You want your prospective employers to feel that you are a strong, dynamic, motivated individual.  If you spend most of your free time chilling out and playing around, this isn’t going to look good, especially if you are in a highly competitive field.

It’s a much better idea to show the interviewer that you are passionate about staying active and responsible.  You don’t have to volunteer every week, but a few strong volunteer projects that directly relate to your field can be helpful.
